Ever since plus-size model Ashley Graham made the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue, the internet and media has been going crazy (and rightfully so). If you aren’t familiar with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, it is an annual magazine that features fashion models wearing swimsuits in exotic places from around the world.
Jumping back to Ashley Graham; she has been paving the way for plus-size models ever since the swimwear cover was released earlier this year. While Ashley is personally thrilled, stating, “I’ve never experienced anything like this! This is so much fun,” America is also reacting in a positive way.
Magazine viewers are thrilled to see a full-figured model, who’s body is more comparable to the “average-sized” woman.
“I proved to them that, yes, people want to see a woman my size, and men and women are really excited about it,” Ashley recalls.
More recently, Victoria’s Secret is under some serious heat to feature curvier models in their products.
This past year, Brittany Cordts asked Victoria’s Secret with an online petition, to use bigger models in its annual fashion show.
“My petition is to encourage them to send models [that are the same size as the lingerie] that they currently offer … 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 — just so there’s diversity, so it’s not all size zero and two,” Brittany stated.
“If they extend their sizes in the future, great, but right now I’d like to focus on stopping that negative image that they send to all these women and teens,” Cordts said to Business Insider in an interview.
In addition, some of the most famous Angels have even said that they would like to see plus-size models added to the Victoria’s Secret roster.
While this may be a soon change, Ashley Graham is not the only plus-size model who will be considered to join the team. Below is a list of a few more plus-size models up for the running:
