Do You Suffer From Acid Reflux? Stop Eating These 12 Foods Immediately!
Bad news for all the chocolate lovers out there (myself included). Chocolate is one of those evils that cause acid reflux. Chocolate contains methylxanthines, which are the source of caffeine. Methylxanthines are the main culprit of this situation. There is a valve at the low end of our esophagus and where it joins the stomach; which is called the lower esophagus sphincter (LES). Studies say that methylxanthines can make smooth muscles relax, which will certainly make the LES muscle relax. And when LES muscle is relaxed, there is a pathway for the digestive acids to reach to the esophagus, which makes this uneasy situation of acid reflux. The high fat content in chocolate is also a trigger for acid reflux. So, dark chocolate or milk chocolate; unfortunately, both don’t help this situation.
